In the first period of his first preseason game this year, Nate Schmidt knocked a rocket home from the point to give the Caps a 1-0 lead against the Islanders on Saturday night.
Schmidt’s power play goal came with 6:07 left in the first period. He was setup on a fake shot by Justin Williams, who dished back to Schmidt for the shot.

Schmidt is making his first appearance in the preseason, after sustaining an injury last week during training camp practice, which has kept him out of the first two contests.

Braden Holtby is also playing in his first game since he faced Team USA in a World Cup exhibition game on September 10th. Holtby looked excellent, pitching a shutout through the first period of play.
On the down side, both Madison Bowey (upper body injury) and Marcus Johansson (lower body injury) would leave the game in the first period, and would not return for the remainder of the game.
