Nicklas Backstrom made his first appearance of training camp this morning at Kettler Capitals Iceplex. Backstrom is returning from the World Cup of Hockey, following Team Sweden’s elimination at the hands of Team Europe on Sunday.
Backstrom registered four points (2g, 2a) in four games with Sweden at the tournament, ranking first among Swedish skaters and tied for third among all skaters at the tournament in points. Backstrom met with the media after practice:

Backstrom’s return leaves only head coach Barry Trotz and goaltenders Braden Holtby and Philipp Grubauer, who remain entangled with the World Cup of Hockey.
In his media session this morning, Backstrom seemed genuinely happy to get back, and referred to Virginia fondly, calling the DMV his home.
