This offseason has been a bit tougher than most for Capitals fans, as last season was one of the more difficult to digest and process. But we made it, and now we are officially inside our one remaining year in the proverbial window opening. It’s not “this will be our year,” but rather “this has to be the year.”
While several Capitals players remain entangled in the World Cup of Hockey, including head coach Barry Trotz, a majority of the training camp roster reported yesterday for physicals, and began on-ice work-outs at 9:30 am this morning at Kettler Capitals Iceplex.
Barry Trotz was quoted as saying he will give players who participate in the World Cup up to four days off following the tournament, so it’s likely Team USA players TJ Oshie, John Carlson and Matt Niskanen will not report to camp until later this weekend or Monday at the latest.
For players still involved in the World Cup, including Nicklas Backstrom, Braden Holtby, Alex Ovechkin, Evgeny Kuznetsov, Philipp Grubauer and newly signed Dmitry Orlov, it’s unlikely we will see them in cap until sometime early the following week. Regardless, play time is over and it’s time to go to work!
