Reports: Capitals and Dmitry Orlov Close to a Deal

According to the Washington Post, the Capitals and Dmitry Orlov are close to signing a one-year deal for $2.6 million.

Isabelle Khurshudyan of the Washington Post is reporting that a deal between the Capitals and defenseman Dmitry Orlov is close. Details still need to be worked out, but it sounds like both sides are optimistic that a deal is imminent.

CSN has confirmed that a deal is close.

Yesterday, Russian media was reporting that Orlov was close to signing a deal to play in the KHL, possibly a stunt by the Orlov camp to encourage the Capitals to get moving on a deal with Orlov.

The Capitals are currently $3,454,874 under the salary cap, as per General Fanager. If the deal goes through at the reported salary, the Capitals will have approximately $854,874 remaining under the cap. This will likely be used for call-ups, and possibly the addition of a 4th line winger, from call-up or free agency.
