We’ve finally made it. Training camps for the World Cup of Hockey start tomorrow (Monday), with pre-tournament games kicking off this Thursday. Sunday was a travel and preparation day for many of the eight Washington Capitals participating in this years tournament. NoVa Caps sets the scene for the week ahead.
TEAM USA – Columbus, Ohio
John Carlson, TJ Oshie and Matt Niskanen all traveled to Columbus, Ohio on Sunday for the start of Team USA‘s training tomorrow at Nationwide Arena. Team USA kicks off the pre-tournament games with a tilt against Team Canada this Friday in Columbus. Puck-drop is 7:00PM EST. Team USA will be at Verizon Center on Tuesday (9/13) to take on Team Finland.
TEAM RUSSIA – Saint Petersburg, Russia
Alex Ovechkin, Evgeny Kuznetsov and Dmitry Orlov have been working out in Saint Petersburg for the last two weeks. In addition to conducting workouts at the Ledovy Ice Palace, the Capitals’ troika has made a number of public appearances, supporting youth and the game of hockey in Russia. Team Russia begins pre-tournament play on Thursday when they host the Czech Republic in Saint Petersburg. Puck-drop is 12:30 PM EST.
TEAM SWEDEN – Gothenburg, Sweden
Nicklas Backstrom has jumped the pond several times in the last month or so, covering commitments in both the US and Sweden. Team Sweden kicks off pre-tournament play with the overall first game of the pre-tournament, this Thursday at high-noon when they visit Helsinki and Team Finland. Team Sweden held its first practice today at its training camp this morning in Gothenburg.
TEAM CANADA – Toronto, Canada
Barry Trotz and Braden Holtby have made their way to Toronto for the start of camp on Monday. Team Canada begins play this week on Friday in Columbus, Ohio when they take on Team USA.
