Ilya Samsonov, the Washington Capitals first round draft pick from the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, has been placed on injured reserve, according to reports.
Reports surfaced Friday evening that Samsonov had suffered an injury, but the type and extent of the injury was unknown. He is currently playing with Metallurg Magnitogorsk of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL).

NoVa Caps reached out to Aivis to try to ascertain the extent of the injury. According to Aivis, “the team has ruled it as a lower body injury and he (Samsonov) will be placed on IR for at least a week, per KHL rules.”
The league minimum is similar to the NHL rule, which provides little detail as to how long a player will actually be on injured reserve, or the severity of the injury.
The KHL season is just a few weeks old, but to this point Samsonov has been primarily the backup for Metallurg Magnitogorsk.
