The Capitals’ Alex Ovechkin and Evgeny Kuznetsov spent part of their Friday evening entertaining the crowd at a KHL game held at the Ledovy Ice Palace in Saint Petersburg, Russia. The entertainment included Ovi and Kuzy dressed in animal costumes, complete with heads and tails.

The boys show was presented at an intermission of the SKA Saint Petersburg game, and included the Pittsburgh Penguins’ Evgeny Malkin. The three NHL superstars played a brief game against a few of the local kids. Ovi notched an early tally in this one, set up by a patented Kuzy feed from below the goal.

The NHL superstars surprised the kids by first taking the ice in full costume. Unbeknownst to the kids, they were about to skate with three of the greats. Exhibit A: The Captain of the Washington Capitals:

The KHL’s brief video snipit from the event:

Many have questioned Team Russia’s training methods in years gone by, saying that training was too rigid and intense (see “Red Army“). Well, this certainly flips the script.

The exhibition game also confirmed that Evgeni Malkin still wears bell-bottom pants.
