I recall that I initially did not like Chimera when he was on the Columbus Blue Jackets as he was one of the players on that team who were involved in a scrum with Ovi that resulted in him getting injured.
Then the trade happened where they sent Chris Clark to Columbus in return for him. It sounded like a reasonable trade for the Caps. Clark no longer had anything left and he fit a position of greater need at the time. Even so, I was sad to see Clark go and not happy to see him traded for a player I disliked at the time. But after he was more integrated with the team, I stopped disliking him.
I eventually met Chimmer at a memorabilia show. Turns out he’s of Ukrainian descent. (I bet the family’s original name was Khymera which translates to “chimera” and that they translated the name when coming over to North America. Turns out Khymera is a last name in the Ukraine.)
Over the years, he provided more offense than expected, having 2 years of 20 goals and 1 year with 15 goals, even if it seemed like he alternated good and bad years. His interview with Joel Ward (and their impersonation of Walton and Vogel were hilarious. And will never forget his game winning playoff goal vs the NY Rangers in 2011 which inspired a Jason in NY video that was a take off on the horror movie series.
