The Washington Capitals have signed defenseman Connor Hobbs to a three-year, entry-level contract, senior vice president and general manager Brian MacLellan announced today.
From the Capitals media release:
Hobbs, 19, registered 41 points (19 goals, 22 assists) in 58 games with the Regina Pats (WHL) in 2015-16. The 6’1”, 196-pound defenseman ranked second among Pats skaters in penalty minutes last season (106) and led Regina defensemen in goals and points. In addition, Hobbs ranked fifth among WHL defensemen in power-play goals (10) and tied for fifth in goals and penalty minutes.
Connor Hobbs is currently on the Kettler ice, participating in development camp.

Hobbs terms: ’16-17: NHL salary $575,000, AHL $70,000

The plan is to send Hobbs back to Regina for another season under former NHL coach John Paddock. Hobbs invited to Team Canada’s U20 team.

He (Hobbs) recorded 10 points (four goals, six assists) in 12 games during the 2016 WHL playoffs and ranked tied for first among WHL defensemen in power-play goals (3), tied for third in goals and fifth in points.
The Regina, Saskatchewan, native has registered 62 points (22 goals, 40 assists) in 113 career WHL games with Medicine Hat and Regina. Hobbs was drafted by the Capitals in the fifth round, 143rd overall, in the 2015 NHL Draft.
