USA Rally Falls Short, Canada Wins 4-3

Team USA fell to heavily favored Team Canada 4-3 Saturday evening at the Ice Palace in Moscow, Russia. Team USA will play Team Russia tomorrow in the Bronze medal game. Canada will face Finland on Sunday for the Gold medal. 

After yielding two first period goals to Team Canada, Team USA would score three unanswered goals in the first 7:25 of the second period to take a 3-2 lead. Team Canada would tie it up on a power play goal late in the second period. Team Canada would regain the lead early in the third period and hold on for the win.

FIRST PERIOD
Team Canada’s Brendan Gallagher would be the firs to light the lamp at 8:59 of the first period.

Brad Marchand would stretch Team Canad’s lead to 2-0 at the 18:02 mark of the opening period.

SECOND PERIOD
Team USA’s would cut the Canadians lead in half early in the second period on a power play by Auston Matthews.

Team USA would tie the game 2:43 later on a goal by David Warsofsky less than 4 minutes into the second period.

Tyler Motte would grab the lead for Team USA with a goal just 8:25 in to the second period.

.

Derick Brassard would tie the game for Team Canada with a power play goal at 15:30 of the second period.

THIRD PERIOD
Team Canada would regain the lead early in the third period on a goal by Ryan Ellis, 1:34 into the final frame.

.

Team Canada would hold on for the 4-3 victory.
