In some ways it seems like it’s been more than a week since the Washington Capitals ended their 2015-2016 season in overtime, in game six against the Pittsburgh Penguins. And in other ways, the disappointment is so very fresh it’s like it happened moments ago.
You’ll want to tune in to hear the NoVa Caps Podcast team share their thoughts on what has transpired in the past week since the season concluded with the team’s MVP, Braden Holtby, sprawled in front of his net. That image will likely be etched in all of our minds for the rest of our lives.

In this episode, recorded on Tuesday, May 17th, George, Scott and Craig are joined by a special guest, Julie Beidler, NoVa Caps’ Hershey Bears contributor. There is great news coming out of the Den as the Bears continue their post-season play and enter the third round of the AHL playoffs this Friday night as they take on the Toronto Marlies in Hershey, Pennsylvania. The winner of this series will be the AHL Eastern Conference Champion! And will continue onto round four and will face off against the Western Conference Champion, either the Ontario Reign (LA Kings) or the Lake Erie Monsters (Columbus Blue Jackets), for the Calder Cup. Let’s Go Bears!
The guys then bring it back to the events of the past week in regards to the Capitals. George quickly discusses game six and how player’s injuries significantly impacted the series loss. And then Scott shares his insight on how Holtby may have felt as he laid on the ice with the season eliminating puck behind him. Scott was so moved by Holtby’s performance throughout the season and by the devastating and playoff elimination loss last week, he wrote an open letter to the Netminder that NoVa Caps shared. We felt the letter’s impact and how it resonated with so many of you. Scott shares a little bit more about his letter and the feedback he has received in the podcast.
Craig, George and Scott also begin to discuss the possibility of some changes to the Capitals’ roster. Many of you saw video of a very emotional Jason Chimera earlier this afternoon and there has been speculation of other possible roster adjustments – we’ll be devoting a lot more time to these conversations in upcoming podcasts, so stay tuned!
