Key dates and events for this summer:

General Manager Media Session – Monday, May 16th. Capitals General Manager Brian MacLellan will hold his final media session for the 2015-2016 season.

World Cup Rosters Finalized – Date for announcement of final World Cup of Hockey roster selections is May 27, 2016.

2016 NHL Combine – The event will be held at First Niagara Center and the HarborCenter in Buffalo from May 30 to June 4

Contract Buy-out Window Open – June 15th – June 30th

2016-2017 Regular Season Schedule Announced – June 20th

2016 NHL Awards – The NHL Awards show will be held June 22nd, Las Vegas, Nevada.

2016 NHL Draft – The 2016 NHL Entry Draft will be the 54th NHL Entry Draft. The draft will be held from June 24–25, 2016 at the First Niagara Center in Buffalo, New York.

Free agents can begin speaking to teams – June 25th – Players and teams can start talking with each other one week prior to Free Agency.

Development CampDevelopment Camp will run from June 28 through July 2 at Kettler Capitals Iceplex in Arlington, Va.

Washington Capitals Fan Fest – The Washington Capitals will host Caps Fan Fest at Kettler Capitals Iceplex on Wednesday, June 29, with activations beginning at 3 p.m. Caps Alumni Exhibition will take place at 7:30 p.m. at Kettler Capitals Iceplex.

Last day to qualify RFAs – June 30th

Unrestricted Free Agency – Friday, July 1. Those Free Agents not resigned by their current club are free to begin negotiations with other clubs. Jason Chimera is the Capitals only Unrestricted Free Agent this year.

World Cup of Hockey Pre-TournamentPre-tournament at Verizon Center, September 13th – 14th.

Rookie TournamentSeptember 17th-20th, Coral Springs, Florida. Includes the Florida Panthers, Tampa Bay Lightening and Nashville Predators.

World Cup of Hockey – The World Cup of Hockey in Toronto, Canada.  First round, September 17th – 22nd, Semifinals, September 24th and 25th, Final (Best of 3), September 27th, 29th and October 1st (if necessary).

2016 Pre-Season – Pre-season schedule starts on September 26th and ends October 9th. The regular season will start around October 12th.
