Schenn’s Cheap Shot On Kuznetzov Shows Clear Intent to Seriously Injure

editorialGoing largely unnoticed in last night’s game 4, more specifically unnoticed by the officials, was Brayden’s Scheen intentional attempt to injure Evgeny Kuznetsov, by taking direct aim at the side of Kuznetsov’s knees.

At real-time speed it is easy to see how the officials might have missed the incident, however, when the video is played in slow motion there is no mistake as to Schenn’s intent.

Schenn has had a tough series so far, handing out hits and being hit, and even getting dumped by Alex Ovechkin into his own bench in game 2 at Verizon Center.

Schenn led the Flyers in hits for in game 1, some of them questionable in nature. It is clear that last night’s cheap shot on Kuznetsov was a flagrant and egregious attempt to injure Kuznetsov, by hitting low and on the side of the knees – the most vulnerable location on the knee. A majority of serious knee injuries in sports occur from similar blows to the side of the knee. It’s pretty clear as to Schenn’s intention, as despicable and cowardly as it may be.

UPDATE: Barry Trotz addressed the issue during his daily presser this afternoon.

I didn’t notice that until i saw the post. Clearly an intent there and given his Game 1, it is clear Schenn has a problem with his emotions and making smart and good decisions.

I actually saw this live and wondered why the ref looking in that direction didn’t see it but I guess there was too much traffic in front to make the call

  3. Steve says:

It was also a cheap shot on Wilson late in the game with no penalty called. The puck was nowhere near him and he got slammed in the head. If it was the other way around, Wilson would have been called for a penalty.

Hard to figure out what these Flyers players are thinking. I guess maybe they’re still PO’d about Chimera’s intent to rupture Gostibehere’s spleen a few weeks back. Oh wait… I’m sorry. I’m sure that was a purely accidental and totally innocent butt end. Because the Capitals would never, ever play dirty.
