And it’s John Carlson with the first score…again! With almost six minutes to go into the first period defenseman John Carlson once again came through for Caps leading off the scores and finding the back of the net during a power play. The opportunity was born when Flyers defenseman Brandon Manning was given two minutes in the box for holding against Evegeny Kuznetsov. The score, at 14:09 in the game, started with a pass from Marcus Johansson at the net to Backstrom on the outside and a flip to Carlson at the top of the ice. Carlson flipped in a wrister sailing past the goalie Steve Mason on the left.
Carlson has now led off scoring for the Capitals in both of the playoff series. Carlson, who played 56 games scored 8 goals in the regular season. The Capitals have a 34-2-2 record when they scored first during the 2015-2016.
