Washington Capitals Daily Report (11-10-15)

The Caps arrived in The Motor City Monday afternoon, in preparation for their tilt with Mike Green and the Detroit Red Wings (7-6-1) tonight. The Caps (10-3-0) are looking to extend their two-game winning streak and keep pace with the first-place New York Rangers. Puck drop is at 7:30 pm.

Morning skate
Brooks Laich practiced with the team this morning and is expected to be ready to play tonight.  Laich’s injury is related to a shot he blocked in Saturday night’s game against the Maple Leafs.  As per Isabelle KhurshudyanJay Beagle left the ice early and headed back to the locker room.  Trotz said Beagle is a game-time decision. He tweaked an old injury.  Practice lines for the morning skate:

Braden Holtby was the first goalie off the ice this morning and will get the start in net.

Showdown in Motown
Tonight’s game against the Red Wings marks the first time the Capitals will face former Capitals defenseman Mike Green.  Green, now a first-line defenseman for the Red Wings spent 10-years in Washington.

Tonight is Sergei Fedorov night at Joe Lewis Arena.  The Red Wings will celebrate Fedorov’s induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame.  Fedorov registered 46 points (13g, 33a) in 70 games with the Capitals from 2007-09.

Alex Ovechkin is one goal shy of passing Sergei Fedorov to become the all-time Russian-born NHL goal scorer.  Ovechkin tied Fedorov on Saturday night against the Maple Leafs.

  • Former Capitals Sergei Fedorov and Phil Housley, were inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame on Monday night.
  • As per Isabelle Khurshudyan, “Told Mike Green of Ovechkin’s desire to slash one of his Easton sticks. Responded with, “if he can catch me.””
  • Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation will host the fifth Capitals Casino Night presented by Leonsis Foundation on Saturday, Nov. 14, from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Sheraton Pentagon City Hotel in Arlington, Va.
