The Washington Capitals had the day off today (Monday) following last nights 6-2 preseason finale victory. The Capitals will return to regular season workouts tomorrow to continue preparations for Saturday’s season opener against the New Jersey Devils.

The Washington Capitals ransacked a depleted Islanders roster last night, 6-2, in the final tune-up for both teams. The Capitals ended the preseason 5-0-2. NoVa Caps has a complete game breakdown right here.
Roster Management
The Capitals announced today that they have cut Aaron Ness, Liam O’Brien, Justin Peters, Derek Roy (PTO), Ryan Stanton and Chandler Stephenson from their training camp roster. Sean Collins, Taylor Chorney, Stanislav Galiev and Phillipp Grubauer still remain on the roster. This leaves a training camp roster of 24, though the active roster doesn’t include injured forward Chris Brown (hand) or top-line center Nicklas Backstrom (hip), who could be activated at any point. (The deadline to set the final roster is 5 pm on Tuesday tomorrow). The updated roster includes:

News and Notes
NHL and NHLPA agreed not to change the division and conference until a final decision is made on the expansion. No changes for 16-17 season.
As per Mike Vogel, during the NHL preseason, 17 of 24 games that went to OT were decided in 3-on-3. Thirteen of them ended in 2:05 or less, seven on 1st shot of OT.

The Washington Capitals have signed center Tim McGauley to a three-year, entry-level contract. The 20-year old 20, registered 105 points (42g, 63a) in 72 games with the Braden Wheat Kings (WHL) in 2014-15
