News and Notes From Capitals Morning Skate (09-16-15)

No morning skate this morning (Wednesday) for the Washington Capitals, as the team prepares for the opening of training camp tomorrow (Thursday). Off-ice physicals and testing will take place on Thursday, with on-ice work set to begin on Friday.  Reminder: the Washington Capitals will be holding Training Camp Day this Saturday, from 9:30 a.m. To 12:30 p.m. at Kettler. News and Notes
The ice at Verizon Center to set to go. This, in addition to the new boards and glass installed over the summer should look pretty nice this coming Monday when the Capitals host the Carolina Hurricanes in the first pre-season game of the season.

Tuesday afternoon it was announced that Washington Post beat reporter Alex Prewitt will be leaving his Capitals’ beat for a new job with Sports Illustrated.  We at NoVa Caps wish Alex all the best with his new endeavor. Alex will be replaced by Washington Post reporter Isabelle Khurshudyan. Giver her a follow on Twitter at @ikhurshudyan.  Congrats to @alex_prewitt and @ikhurshudyan on their new jobs!

thirdsCSN Mid-Atlantic announced a 74-game television schedule today (71 regular-season games and three preseason contests). The three preseason contests: #CapsCanes (Sept. 21), #CapsBruins (Oct. 2) and #CapsIsles (Oct. 4).  The NHL also announced their pre-season television schedule for games, which can be found here.

Reminder, the new Capitals new third jerseys will be available in about 4 weeks, however, you can pre-order here, should you be so inclined.

As per Alex Prewitt, “Spoke with Asst GM Ross Mahoney about the prospects tourney. Details haven’t been discussed yet, but likely plan has Caps hosting in 2017.”  “Mahoney said both Kettler and Hershey would theoretically be options to host, but couldn’t comment more because it hasn’t been talked about.”

Free 3-on-3 Hockey at Monday nights Caps-Canes game. The league has designated 45 select games (including the Caps-Canes game on Monday) throughout the preseason which will follow the conclusion of regulation with a five-minute three-on-three overtime regardless of the score of the game.  A list of the designated games can be found here.
