The Capitals traded their 62nd and 113th picsk overall to the New York Rangers for the Rangers 57th pick overall. With the pick, the Capitals selected 6′-2″, 220 lb Swiss defenseman, Jonas Siegenthaler.

Siegenthaler has one year left on his deal with Zurich in the Swiss League, and plans to come to North America after it expires.  The 18 year old Siegenthaler was ranked No. 12 among Euro skaters by Central Scouting. Elite Prospects book on Jonas:

“Jonas Siegenthaler is a smooth skating defenseman with a tremendous combination of size and mobility. Keeps his game simple, by not risking too much and always looking to make a short safe pass. Needs to improve his shoot, despite most of the time being on target, his release is poor and it lacks power. Has fine hands and puck handling and his passes are soft and accurate, but like his shot they lack power. Jonas Siegenthaler got a cup of coffee in the NLA, Switzerland’s top league in 2013-14, but spent the vast majority of the season there playing against men this season. He played in 41 games, but didn’t score much, with just three assists for the Zurich Lions. Siegenthaler has been a regular on Swiss National Teams, playing at the 2013, 2014, and 2015 Under 18 tournaments, even being named to the tournament all-star team after being part of the Swiss’ huge upset victory over Russia in the Quarter-Finals. Siegenthaler was also a member of the Swiss team at the 2014 Ivan Hlinka tournament. This winter, he represented Switzerland at the 2015 World Junior Championships, playing an impressive role for a 17-year-old in the Under 20 tournament.
