As a part of the Winter Classic, the Capitals released a ton of new merchandise, which included what appears to be a new symbol or logo for the team.  This led to some speculation regarding the origin and intent of the new logo.  Were the Caps trying out a new design on the fans?

As reported by NoVa Caps Fan Turner Ashby Orndorff,  Icethetics.co is reporting that the Caps are expecting a new third jersey. The article states “A new alternate sweater is coming to the nation’s capital, according to Reebok’s catalog”.

I’m hoping we decide to use the Winter Classic jersey as our alternate, or some other design from the WC merchandise. I was perplexed that they would use the old white throwbacks as the alternate these past couple years. First of all, we haven’t had much luck in those particular jerseys from what I can recall, and the alternate jersey should be a HOME JERSEY. The Capitals fans are the only ones who care about the Capitals’ alternate jerseys… so why not wear them where the home fans can appreciate them?
