Andre Burakovsky Continues Hot Start With The Colorado Avalanche

By most accounts, it had to happen. Andre Burakovsky’s time with the Washington Capitals had run its course, options had run out and a trade needed to be made, for the sake of the Capitals, as well as Burakovsky. So at the end of last June, the Capitals did just that, trading the Swedish winger to the Colorado Avalanche, with the Capitals receiving a second and a third-round pick in the 2020 NHL Draft in return.

Sometimes a change of scenery is all that is required to improve a situation. So far, Andre Burakovsky has made the most of his change in scenery, as he and the Colorado Avalanche are off to a scorching-hot start.

Burakovsky continued his hot start to the 2019-2020 season Friday night against the Florida Panthers in South Florida. He would pot two more goals and add an assist on the Avalanche’s game winning goal.

Burakovsky now has four goals and four assists in seven games played so far this season. The same point total as fellow-countryman Filip Forsberg.

The change was immediate for Burakovsky. He started the season with back-to-back game-winning goals, this one, in overtime against the Arizona Coyotes last Sunday.

Swedish media outlet Aftonbladet interviewed Burakovsky by phone following the Avalanche’s victory over the Panthers Friday night. He was asked about his current hot streak.

“In Washington, I often went around and worried about what the coaches would think. Now I don’t think much, I just play and it has produced results,” said Burakovsky. “I’ve decided to shoot when I get positions and yes, it works. I’ve had some luck too, but the more times they go in, the more confidence I get.”

The Avalanche are the only remaining team in the league to have not lost a game in regulation so far this season (6-0-1). The season is still very young, but so far, Andre Burakovsky seems to be flourishing from his change in scenery.

Oh, and former Capitals’ netminder Philipp Grubauer is on his own hot streak with the Avalanche. He’s currently second in the league in wins. It’s enough to make him do a twirl (video below).
