With their 3-0 loss to the New York Islanders on Saturday night, the Capitals’ 2018-19 regular season is officially over and with a multitude of possibilities for their first round opponent in the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs, the team is set to play the Carolina Hurricanes and former Capital Justin Williams in the opening round of the spring tournament.
The Capitals swept the regular season series between the two teams this season, going 4-0-0 while outscoring the ‘Canes 16-9 on the season. This will be the first time the two teams have met in the postseason, per Capitals Senior Writer Mike Vogel.
#Caps have been division rivals with Carolina for two decades, longer than any other team in the Metro. And they will face one another in a playoff series for the first time, beginning next week.
