The Capitals essentially split into two groups for game-day and training camp preparations this morning. Those on the roster for tonight’s pre-season opener against the Carolina Hurricanes took the ice at 10 a.m., to run through practice lines and game day preparations.  Those not on the roster for tonight continued with training camp activities. For more information on what you need to know for tonight’s game, please check here for a game preview.

Morning Skate
Players on the roster for tonight’s first preseason game took the ice first this morning (Monday). Preseason opener practice lines from the AM skate:

CaptureOffesnive Lines
Ovechkin-Kuznetsov-Oshie
Chimera-Laich-Wilson
Vrana-Roy-Galiev
Collins-Camper-Barber

Defensive pairings:
Alzner-Niskanen
Orlov-Ness
Djoos-Carrick

As per Alex Prewitt, looks like Burakovsky and Stanton are the extras from the announced roster — neither taking morning skate.  If practice lines hold true, Burakovsky looks to be a healthy scratch tonight.

Trotz said Holtby will start tonight, Ellis will come in for relief, then stay for 3v3 OT.  Trotz said don’t be surprised if Roy and Kuznetsov flip spots mid-game tonight. Plans to tinker like that for the first 3-4 preseason games.
